Osteoporosis affects approximately 66% of all Australian's over the age of 55 and has direct healthcare costs of $3.4 billion per year. Whilst it is commonly thought of as a condition primarily affecting menopausal women, one in four men over the age of 50 will experience an osteoporotic associated trauma fracture.
Osteoporosis is defined by a reduced bone mass, reduced bone mineral density and increased risk of bone fracture. Whilst it is a completely preventable and treatable condition, it is referred to as ‘the silent disease’ because the majority of people don’t know they have low bone mineral density until they experience a fracture.
This webinar explores the current evidence supporting the use of a range of dietary, nutritional, herbal and lifestyle interventions in the prevention and management of osteoporosis. This webinar explores current evidence for the prevention and management of osteoporosis including:
- Diagnostics and influences on peak bone mass
- Fracture risk assessment and testing
- Commonly prescribed drug therapies and their effects
- Current nutritional interventions
- Effective dietary and lifestyle management
