We now know that the gut microbiota performs tasks, essential to life, that we are not genetically capable of performing for ourselves. The vast, complex community of organisms exists not only in the intestinal lumen as previously thought, but also in the mucus layer, where they plaly a vital role in regulating the function and integrity of the gut wall.
The influence of the gut on health and disease is not due to the microbiota alone. At sites throughout the gut we see the production of a number of neuropeptides that influence not only metabolism and appetite, but also behaviour and emotions. There is an inter-relationship between these neuropeptides and the gut microbiota, with much of their effect being exerted through the gut-brain axis.
In this webinar Berris will present up-to-date reserarch on gut microbiota and neuropeptides, and will demonstrate how to correct imbalances using herbal medicine and dietary recommendations.
